Since 2 September 2021, the day of the inauguration, residents and passers-by have been able to admire, near the King Baudouin stadium in Laeken, the magnificent creation in homage to the world long jump record of athlete Mike Powell, unbeaten since 1991.

A perfect representation of the trajectory of the historic jump,
The shoe was made in great detail and in multiple positions and is the result of a work initiated in 2011, constructed over several years with a long documentary process (decomposition of the movement, reconstitution of the original shoes from archive photographs, meeting of the artist and the athlete in Los Angeles in 2019).

For this, the artist used Jesmonite products, known for their strength, lightness and above all their ability to create with extreme precision.

We are more than happy to have had the honour of being behind the scenes of this beautiful project and to have accompanied Pierre Larauza, a talented artist!

Dear Pierre, we are curious, could you explain your choice for the Jesmonite range of products?

“I naturally chose this range of products when I learned about their many advantages in terms of strength and precision. I also appreciated the ease of use and the richness of the pigmentation work. Finally its non-toxicity is proving to be a definite advantage, for example compared to epoxy resin.”

Do you have any tips from your work that you would like to share with people who want to work with this product?

“Although Jesmonite is inherently very strong, fibreglass chips can be added to strengthen certain parts of a part.”
