Rubber Ice™ is a transparent and brittle platinum RTV silicone specially designed to reproduce with striking realism the appearance of shattered glass, ice, crystal or diamonds. After curing, it can be broken, torn or crumbled to create highly realistic transparent shards, without the risks associated with using real glass.
Thanks to its crystal-clear transparency and simple 1:1 mix ratio, Rubber Ice™ is particularly suited to making fake glass, fake ice and decorative elements for special effects, film, theatre, scenography, displays, events, models and props.
It is also ideal for encapsulating small objects or decorative elements and for creating cubes, blocks or transparent shapes that can be displayed as is. Rubber Ice™ can also be coloured using compatible pigments to achieve different tinted glass, crystal or ice effects.
Type: Platinum addition-cure RTV silicone
Mix ratio: 100 A : 100 B
Working time: 25 min
Demold time: 6 h
Shore A hardness after 24 h: 25
Density: 1.00 g/cm³
Viscosity: 200 mPa·s
Linear shrinkage: < 0.1%
Elongation: 150%
Like all platinum silicones, Rubber Ice™ may be sensitive to certain materials that can inhibit its curing. Avoid contact with amines, certain modeling clays, metal salts, sulphur compounds, tin-based catalysts and condensation-cure RTV silicones.
Before use, ensure that the model and materials in contact with the silicone are clean, dry and compatible. If in doubt, always perform a small preliminary test to verify proper curing of the silicone.
Rubber Ice™ allows for the creation of highly realistic fake broken glass, fake ice, crystals, and transparent shards. It is particularly suitable for special effects, sets, displays, props, and staging.
No. Once polymerized and fragmented, Rubber Ice™ visually reproduces the appearance of broken glass without forming the sharp edges characteristic of real glass.
Rubber Ice™ is a platinum silicone, sensitive to certain contaminants that may inhibit its polymerization. Sulfur, certain metal-containing compounds, latex, some modeling clays, resins, or contaminated surfaces can prevent or disrupt curing. Therefore, check the compatibility of the mold, container, tools, and substrate before casting and, if in doubt, perform a small preliminary test.
Yes. After casting, moderate heat can accelerate polymerization, provided the temperatures recommended in the technical data sheet are respected.
After complete polymerization, Rubber Ice™ can be broken, torn, or crumbled to obtain the desired shard size and shape.
No, it is not essential. Its very low viscosity allows bubbles to escape naturally, achieving an excellent result. However, vacuum degassing can be performed to further optimize transparency.
