Moulding alginate is a natural product suitable for all body impressions.
Mixed with water, this seaweed powder gives a perfect reproduction of the finest details.
The proofs can then be printed in moulding plaster, synthetic plaster, wax or our F23 polyurethane resin.
Alginate is a hydrophilic polymer derived from dried and ground seaweed. It comes in the form of a fine white powder. The powder mixes with water and turns into a gelatinous paste on contact. When set, the alginate solidifies and retains the precise imprint of the body. It enables excellent reproduction of the human body (face, hands, etc.) as well as various other organic materials (fruit, plants, animals, etc.) Application If necessary, aerate the powder by hand to remove any lumps. Measure the quantity of water required and pour in 1/3 of the powder. Mix the first mixture well before adding the remaining 2/3 of the powder. When the mixture is perfectly homogeneous, the alginate is ready for use. Immerse the object you want to reproduce in it for a few minutes. When it sets, gently pull it out. You can also apply a thick layer of alginate to the face or surface of your choice. In this case, it will be necessary to make a counter-mould to hold it in place. To do this, use plaster strips, cut to the required length by yourself. Apply them directly to the alginate after it has set, and repeat the operation until you obtain a sufficiently solid shell. When the mould is ready, fill the negative within the hour. Alginate shrinks as it dries, so the longer you wait, the more the mould will shrink. When the plaster has hardened, tear the alginate to release your print. The mold is not reusable.
Note
*1 Setting time varies with the temperature of the water; the higher the temperature, the shorter the working time.
*2 The exact 2:1 ratio must be respected to avoid altering the product’s final characteristics.
