Surface preparation

The concrete surface must be free of dust and loose material.

Clean concrete

1. Compressed air can be used to clean the surface and ensure that all debris and contaminants have been removed from any hairline cracks or deep pits.

2. A vacuum cleaner should be used to ensure that the repair area is free of dust and debris.

Coated concrete

1. The concrete surface must be scarified to remove any existing coating and to ensure that the repair material adheres to the surface.

2. Use a portable power grinder to clean the surface.

3. Once the repair area has been scarified, it must be vacuumed and cleared of any dust or debris.

Contaminated concrete

1. If the concrete surface has been contaminated by oil or industrial chemicals, these must be removed from the repair surface.

2. If the contamination is superficial, the repair area can be cleaned using a mechanical hand grinder, then vacuumed.

3. In the case of deeper contamination, it is advisable to use enzymes on the repair surface to clean the oils/chemicals from the substrate.
