This additive transforms liquid silicone into a thick paste, allowing for vertical applications without sagging.
A thixotropic agent is an additive used in silicone to control the viscosity of the mixture.
Adding a thixotrope transforms liquid silicone into a paste or gel, making it easier to apply on vertical or overhanging surfaces without sagging.
This thixotrope must be used with our addition-cure silicones (e.g., AS40/AS20/ZA22).
Each family of silicones has its own additives; it is crucial not to mix them up.
Note: For products from other sources, a preliminary compatibility test is recommended.
1. Preparation
Mix the silicone with the amount of catalyst recommended by the manufacturer.
2. Addition of thickener
Once the mixture is homogeneous, add between 1 and 3% of thixotropic agent, depending on the required degree of thixotropy.
3. Application
Thixotropy will develop after 2 to 3 minutes, then the material can be brushed onto vertical surfaces.
4. Note
Adding a thixotrope will cause translucent silicones to lose clarity; the polymerized product will become white.
