A thixotropic agent is an additive used in silicone to control the viscosity of the mixture.
Adding a thixotrope transforms liquid silicone into a paste or gel, making it easier to apply on vertical or overhanging surfaces without sagging.
Note: For externally sourced products, a preliminary compatibility test is recommended.
1. Preparation:
Mix the silicone with the amount of catalyst recommended by the manufacturer.
2. Thickener Addition:
Once the mixture is homogeneous, add between 3 and 5% of thixotropic agent depending on the required degree of thixotropy.
3. Application:
Depending on the viscosity obtained, apply the material with a spatula or brush.
Its highly thickened texture enables it to cling perfectly to vertical or inclined surfaces without dripping.
4. Curing:
The curing time is determined by the choice of catalyst (slow or fast).
Generally, it is recommended to wait 24 hours before the first pour, and 48 hours for epoxy, polyester, or polyurethane systems.
