Thixotropic Thickener for Silicone – Polyaddition & Polycondensation

Thixotropic thickener for polyaddition and polycondensation RTV silicones. Ideal for increasing viscosity, preventing runs and easily making brush-on molds, by stamping or on vertical surfaces.
From : € 9,08 TVA Incl.

Description

Thixotropic Thickener for Silicone is an add-itve used to increase the viscosity of RTV-2 addition-cure and condensation-cure silicones. It transforms liquid silicone into a thicker or pasty consistency, suitable for vertical applications, brushing, or spreading with a spatula.

Ideal for creating silicone molds by brush or skin molding, it limits sagging when applied to sculptures, statues, bas-reliefs, walls, and complex shapes. This technique allows for the creation of a silicone skin directly on the model without the need for a full mold box.

Applications

  • Brush-on / skin molding
  • Sculptures, statues, and ornaments
  • Bas-reliefs and architectural decor
  • Wall and facade impressions
  • Wood, bark, and tree trunks
  • Stone, rocks, and paving stones

Advantages

  • Adjustable viscosity
  • Compatible with addition and condensation-cure silicone
  • Vertical application without sagging
  • Ideal for brush-on molds
  • Application by brush or spatula
  • Molding without a casting box

Implementation

1. Prepare

Thoroughly mix the silicone base with its catalyst.

2. Dose

Add 0.5 to 2% thixotropic thickener relative to the weight of the silicone. Start with a small amount and adjust gradually until the desired viscosity is reached.

3. Mix

Mix thoroughly for 2 to 4 minutes until the desired viscosity is achieved.

4. Apply

Apply by brush or spatula in several layers until the desired thickness is reached.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Gradually add 0.5 to 2% thixotropic thickener to the silicone to increase its viscosity and limit sagging.

Adding a thixotropic agent gives the silicone a thicker consistency, allowing it to be applied by brush or spatula to a vertical surface.

Generally use 0.5 to 2% by weight. Start with a low dosage and increase gradually depending on the desired viscosity and the silicone used.

Yes. The thixotropic agent is particularly suitable for making brush-on or skin molds, especially on sculptures, statues, walls, stones, and bas-reliefs.

Yes. This thickener can be used with compatible RTV addition and condensation silicones. It is recommended to perform a preliminary test for any new silicone formulation.

At recommended dosages, its influence on the final hardness of the silicone generally remains low. Follow the recommended dosage and perform a preliminary test for demanding applications.

Thixotropy allows for the creation of a silicone skin directly on a model and generally avoids the need for the leak-proof mold box required for liquid silicone. Depending on the shape and dimensions of the mold, a support shell or mother mold may still be necessary.
